Festive afternoon tea for my birthday. Food was great and scones gorgeous, but the atmosphere was lacking. Only a small number of tables booked this afternoon, and we were all placed in the conservatory (quite a few empty tables). We had to ask about festive mustic to make it feel slightly more festive and only sparse decorations in the room and tables not laid for Xmas at all, so again disappointing.

We hosted a Business Breakfast at St Michael’s Manor today and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. I’ve worked with the events team, Ussha and Christina, on several occasions now and they are always incredibly helpful and professional. Today’s event was a huge success – the breakfast was seamlessly run, the food was excellent quality, and the whole atmosphere felt relaxed and well organised. The service from the wider team was also fantastic. In particular, I spoke with Poppy from the serving staff, who was polite, attentive, and very professional throughout. Thank you to everyone at St Michael’s Manor for making the event such a pleasure to host – highly recommended!

Came for my grandad’s 80th birthday! The food was delicious and the portions were enormous. The service was amazing, please tell the man with the front curly hair that we thank him for his great hospitality and service! 10/10 would recommend.

We went on Sunday night and were welcomed by the staff with a complimentary upgrade to a park-view room. Rochelle at reception gave us a helpful guide to the area, although we decided to have dinner in the hotel instead. We enjoyed a lovely, tasty steak, a nice red wine, and hot bread rolls in the extension of the bar area next to the fire station. It felt like having dinner in someone’s home. There was a staff party that evening, but as promised, the music stopped at 10:30 pm, and we were able to sleep nicely and quietly through the night. St Albans doesn’t have much to do as it’s quite a small place, but we would come back again just for this hotel.

I’ve loved staying at this hotel. Everything you could wish for a nice comfortable stay. Welcoming staff, really nice room and the food is superb. I had one dinner and two breakfasts here and the food is outstanding - I would definitely stay here again.

We only stayed for one night, and honestly, we wished we could have stayed longer. The location is absolutely gorgeous, with expansive grounds, lovely gardens, and a peaceful lake that creates a perfect backdrop for relaxation. We didn’t even get time to explore the historic area. Our room was beautifully appointed and felt so inviting, making it feel like a real retreat. The staff were genuinely friendly and eager to help, which made our stay even more enjoyable. With rooms being on the first floor, the staircase was a hike for my elderly dad who managed, but it was slow. Breakfast was a highlight both continental and ordered—delicious and served quickly. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and hope to come back for a longer stay!

Great location, a short 8-10 minute walk into the center of St. Albans. Lots of parking. Didn’t eat here because there were so many other good food options around St Albans. The service was good, the bar staff were great. Due to the hotel’s age there was no elevator so had to carry all bags upstairs. It’s a nice building with Great Lake and gardens. It was cold outside, even snowed however the bedroom was so hot. The cleaners turn the radiators full on and even the air conditioning until was pumping out hot air. The bed and pillows were comfortable if not amazing. The bathroom had been modernized but didn’t have a hand rail for a hand towel. We will come back when we visit St Albans again but will figure out a way to cool the room!!!

Stylish hotel in large and beautifully kept gardens with lake, all viewable from a terrace at the hotel. Great food at dinner and breakfast. Energetic young staff and well appointed rooms with gushing hot water. Close to all the main St Albans tourist sites and on the river Ver. With a bit more attention to minor maintenance (they're working on it soon) it'd be a 5*.
